A Complete System Description Document
Just having a software tool does not a compliant EVMS make; you also need the documented processes and procedures showing how the tools are used to generate the system artifacts that prove compliance with the EIA-748 standard. Fortunately, we have that, too.
EIA-748 Compliance Traceability
T-EVMS traces our system artifacts to all 133 of the Objective Evidence items listed in the NDIA Earned Value Management Systems EIA-748-C Intent Guide. Most of these artifacts are created and maintained directly through the T-EVMS tools, but some artifacts relating to company accounting processes must exist prior to implementation. These need only be referenced within Appendix A: System Artifacts to fully implement T-EVMS.
Processes in T-EVMS describe the inputs and activities that generate or modify the artifacts used to prove compliance with the EIA-748 standard. The eight major processes include:
- Cost Collection
- Risk Management
- Analysis and Reporting
- Indirect Cost Management
- Scope Definition
- Budget and Work Authorization
- Baseline Management
- Status and Forecasting
Each process also has tailoring guidance to help a project manager make common-sense changes that do not break the system description, where required or desired.
Desktop Procedures Included
Each process includes detailed, step-by-step procedures to help users understand and effectively use the system. These procedures are called Activities in the System Description, and often are divided into Steps to make it easier for the user to follow along. Many of the most complex tasks are automated, allowing users to concentrate on the project information rather than on learning how to make the tool do what you need it to do.
Personalization, CONFIGURATION and More
The System Description is delivered as a licensed Microsoft Word document so that you can add your corporate logo, the EVMS owner, internal processes, or other information. It also includes a full listing of all required files and their locations, and in Appendix C there is the IMS Custom Data Dictionary listing all of the customized fields used by Project.
